So you definitely love oatmeal and that’s why you have to try this Spicy Maple Oatmeal Recipe. This is the perfect breakfast to spice up your day. Moreover it’s so easy to make and ready in less than 10 minutes.

I feel this goes best with figs and almond chips, but since the fig season is so short, try adding some nuts instead. But feel free to add any toppings you like or you have at that moment in your kitchen.

The maple syrup and chili flakes creates the perfect balance between sweet and spicy. For my taste, it is the best ratio, but add more or less chili flakes, depending on how spicy you want it to be.

I recommend you to use rolled oats or fine oats. They are a lot quicker to cook. But you can use any type of oats. If you are using steel cut oats, the time of cooking increases to 20-25 minutes and you will also need to add more water.

Ingredients

1 mashed banana

1 cup vegan milk

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup rolled oats

dash of cinnamon  

1 1/2 tablespoons maple syrup

1/3 teaspoon chili flakes  

toppings  ( I used almond chips and figs)

Instructions

Step 1: mash the banana in a pot with a fork. Then add the oats, water, milk and cinnamon and cook until thickened

Step 2: mix the maple syrup and chili flakes in a small bowl

Step 3: when the oats are ready, add them in a bowl. Add the spicy syrup on top and add toppings. Sprinkle more cinnamon, if you want
